Faculty beat Juniors 25-23 in Homecoming Week Volleyball Match

In the spirit of homecoming week, festivities are at an all-time high.
On Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, the juniors and faculty members faced off in an intense volleyball match. What began as a friendly matchup quickly turned into a back-and-forth scoring battle before the faculty ultimately secured a 25-23 victory.
As the game entered full swing, captains Dominic Muñecas and Mr. Rivero helped their teams engage in several long rallies.
The Juniors' early firepower came from the frontcourt tandem of Jake Moreno, Adrian Giner, Alejandro Galvez-Cuesta, and Dominic Muñecas. Galvez, Moreno, and Giner set up much of their scoring, allowing Muñecas to send quick strikes to the other side. In the backcourt, William Strauch, Ray Izquierdo, and Giankarlo Rodriguez made crucial saves.
For the Faculty, it was a true team effort. Everyone contributed to the game. In the frontcourt, Mr. Rivero stood out with a big block that set the tone early, while Coach Thompson, Br. Al, Mr. Campbell and Mr. Pace secured the middle areas, and Mr. Leon covered the backcourt. Additionally, Mrs. Anderson contributed a series of three to four serves that led to a scoring run for the teachers.
At one point, the Faculty led 17-11 due to errors by their opponents. The Juniors then scored seven straight points to establish an 18-17 lead. This stretch was characterized by a series of long rallies, close calls, and one or two instances of net touching.
The Faculty responded decisively, increasing the score to 22-19 following more mistakes by the Juniors. At its peak, the Faculty was up 24-23. A long rally, ending with a strike by Mr. Pace, led to another error by the Juniors.
Final score: 25-23.
It was exciting to see the juniors battle it out with the faculty, but, unfortunately, we didn't win," said junior Patricio Zaldivar.
After the intense match, there were feelings of camaraderie and sportsmanship. All participants, including the audience, enjoyed the event.
When asked who the MVP of this match was, Mr. Rivero replied:
"All of them. Everybody. Faculty, students, everybody that came out. Everybody's a winner here."
In the spirit of camaraderie, both teams delivered an engaging and competitive volleyball performance. However, this leaves the Class of 2028 with a gap to fill. Next year, as seniors, they will have their final opportunity to win.
