The Explorers put on a Homecoming Show

Homecoming night featured a dominant football performance, the crowning of the HOCO court and a packed student section.
The Explorers celebrated Homecoming with a dominant 58-0 victory over the Homestead Broncos on Thursday, improving their record to 5-1 this season. The score of 58 marked the Explorers' highest-scoring game of the season.
Before the game, the atmosphere around the field was lively, featuring a student tailgate. Freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors each set up their own tents with various themes, activities and food. The Conquistadors, Columbus' student section, contributed to the excitement with drums, flags, and a large crowd that maintained high energy throughout the evening.
The excitement peaked during halftime when this year's Homecoming Court was announced. As sparklers and red, white, and blue smoke filled the field, Lauren McNamara and Christian Martinez were named the 2026 Homecoming Queen and King. Amir Sears and Gabriela Gonzalez received the titles of Prince and Princess.
The running game was a significant factor in the victory, with Cecil Smith rushing for 69 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries, while Matteo Barreiro contributed 84 total yards and two touchdowns.
The defense has been a major strength for Columbus this season. Through the first six games, the Explorers have allowed an average of only 13.3 points per game. The 58-0 victory over Homestead continued this trend and marked Columbus's third consecutive win.
For Columbus, Homecoming was not solely about the final score. The packed stands, the Homecoming court ceremony, and the festive atmosphere provided fans with plenty to celebrate.
With the 58-0 win, Columbus aims to maintain its momentum heading into the next game against Southwest. The Explorers are scheduled to host Southwest at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1.
