Miami Hurricanes Back on Top

By Mark Tanner

The Hurricanes are 9-0, 1st in the ACC, and ranked number 4. With their new quarterback Cam Ward, they have a chance of making it to the championship this year.

The Miami Hurricanes have been on a generational run this year with a record of 9-0. This came out of nowhere considering that in the 2023-2024 season, their record was 7-6 and in the 2022-2023 season they were 5-7. They have already surpassed their recent years with a few games left to go.

The Hurricanes have a new quarterback this year: Cameron Ward. It wasn't easy to get him, though. He was supposed to go to the NFL Draft this year but, at the last minute, decided to commit to Miami, and boy, was this the right choice. With a 68% pass completion rate, 24 touchdowns, and a grand total of 2,746 yards in only eight games, this man stands out as one of the best quarterbacks in the game right now.

Compared to his last year's stats at Washington State with only 25 total touchdowns and 3,735 yards, he is predicted to go way past these marks.

Along with a good quarterback, UM also has an amazing wide receiver named Xavier Restrepo. Restrepo recently broke the record for the most receiving yards in a season at U Miami. The previous record holder was Santana Moss, with 2,547 yards in one season, and Restrepo has 2,573 with three more games to go.

Miami played against its former coach Manny Diaz on Nov. 2. The game had something on the line: the Miami players got to prove to their old coach that he shouldn't have left. The game started very close with Miami at 17 and Duke at 21. It wasn't looking good for Miami but they bounced back in the second half and ended the game with a blowout win: Miami 53- Duke 31. Cam Ward threw for 400 yards that game, and Restrepo got 3 TD and 146 yards. This goes to show that everyone in the ACC should not take UM lightly.

Miami is now ranked number 4 in the country and is scheduled to play Georgia Tech next. They are predicted to go undefeated and rank number 3 by the end of the season. Their playoff chances are looking very high right now, so count on Miami to go far in the playoffs.
