On Friday, April 11, 2025, a handful of students from the mindfulness club were able to go on a field trip to a yoga studio, called Bodhi Yoga, that is across the street from the Falls. Here, they were able to practice many exercises and stretches that are usually done in a session.
As Mindfulness Club President Gabriel Olano states, “The yoga session on Friday allowed me to experience a real yoga class after all the sessions we’ve done in the mindfulness club, and it was awesome to see how everything we’ve done in our practices translates to the real thing.”
We noticed how empty the session room was when we walked in. There were no pictures on the walls to look at. Only the cubbies and some other objects were there. It was clear that the studio emphasized simplicity without any distractions.

The warm-up was a wonderful experience, as we stretched our muscles to practice our flexibility. Stretches such as downward dog and toe-touching were beneficial in preparing us for the yoga workouts.
The workouts were intense, as they were incredibly difficult. They tested our ability to breathe while working on balance, flexibility, and coordination. We were challenged beyond our comfort zones. It seemed like a totally new experience.
“It was definitely so much harder [than the yoga we do at school], but I felt so opened up and in a way liberated through the intense breathing exercises and poses," says Gabriel.

After the strenuous workouts, we got to cool down by lying on the mat and meditating. We were able to take time to connect with our bodies and reflect on how we did, how we are feeling, and what we need to keep doing.
“I’m going to continue going to yoga classes like that one to continue developing my presence and groundedness within myself.”
Overall, this yoga session was one of the best experiences I have ever had. Not only is it challenging, but it also teaches you to love yourself and your life. Attempt yoga once, and it can change your life forever.
"I think it was a fantastic trip. Not only did we learn about yoga, but the instructor also learned about the promise of the younger generation," says Mindfulness Club Moderator Steven O'Brien.
