The College and Career Center at Columbus is known for helping students get into top colleges and universities and find a place where they feel they belong.
The first step in that process is visiting campuses. From March 10 through March 26, the center organized tours of several local universities.
Students visited Miami Dade College’s Kendall Campus, Florida International University and the University of Miami. The day tours provided a learning experience for rising juniors and seniors as they prepare for their college journeys.
Miami Dade College
On March 10, students visited the Honors College at Miami Dade College, where they gathered information as they begin the admissions process.
The tour began with an introduction at the Business Innovation and Technology Center, covering topics such as student to faculty ratio, average class size and scholarship opportunities.
Students were then guided through campus, walking past academic buildings, athletic facilities and extracurricular spaces, including pottery and ceramics studios.
The group also met with an admissions representative for the Honors College, where they learned about program benefits and the application process.
Next, students visited the student life center, where they were introduced to campus resources, including the career closet, a program that provides free professional clothing for interviews, conferences and special events.
Students also explored the gaming center, which offers computer stations for recreational use.
The tour concluded with lunch before students returned to school.
Florida International University
Students visited Florida International University on March 19, where they participated in a campus tour and presentations.
The visit began with sightseeing around campus, followed by an Honors College presentation outlining benefits such as priority registration, scholarships and internship opportunities.
Students then toured key campus locations, including the gymnasium, academic buildings and a residence hall room.
The visit ended with lunch at the campus dining hall.
University of Miami
On March 25, students toured the University of Miami in Coral Gables, where they learned about academic programs, study abroad opportunities and the admissions process.
The tour began with a presentation from the Herbert Business School, highlighting academic offerings and career pathways.
A current student also spoke about campus life, including student organizations, athletics and available resources.
University officials highlighted an 11 to 1 student to faculty ratio, along with benefits such as tutoring services, counseling support and access to campus events.
Students were divided into three groups based on academic interests and guided around campus by student tour leaders.
The visit concluded with lunch before students returned to Columbus.
The experience gave Columbus students a firsthand look at college life as rising seniors prepare to apply and rising juniors begin planning for their future.
