Week 7 gave us a London beatdown, an all-time comeback, rising contenders, collapsing pretenders, and a brutal night in primetime.
Rams Dominate in LondonÂ
The Los Angeles Rams faced off against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Wembley Stadium, London. The Rams quickly gained momentum, leading to a 21–0 halftime score.
Even with star wide receiver Puka Nacua out due to an ankle injury, the Jaguars defense couldn’t do anything to stop Matthew Stafford and his Rams offense. Stafford was nearly flawless, throwing for 5 touchdowns. Veteran wide receiver Davante Adams excelled in Nacua’s absence, hauling in 3 touchdowns of his own.Â
The Rams defense was just as dominant, forcing two turnovers and holding Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence under 200 passing yards. This 35-7 blowout win cements the Rams as contenders and has the Jaguars on fraud watch.
Comeback for the AgesÂ
The Denver Broncos came into their Week 7 matchup on Sunday as 7.5-point favorites against the New York Giants. By halftime, the Giants were completely outplaying the Broncos, leading 19-0.Â
By the end of the 3rd quarter, this game looked all but over. Jaxson Dart and his Giants were firing on all cylinders and looked unstoppable. Bo Nix and his offense looked miserable every time they trotted onto the field. Once the 4th quarter began, something clicked in this team's offense, and the Broncos scored four straight touchdowns.Â
On the following possession, Jaxson Dart led a 65-yard touchdown drive to put his team back on top with just 37 seconds remaining. However, the Broncos quickly countered, moving down the field enough to get in field goal range. Will Lutz hit the 39-yarder to ice one of the greatest comebacks we’ll ever see. The Broncos erupted for 33 points in the fourth quarter, completing one of the most unbelievable comebacks in NFL history.
Surprising Start
The Indianapolis Colts continue to surpass expectations every week. The team, led by Comeback Player of the Year candidate Daniel Jones, has started the year at 6-1. This team’s success has been largely attributed to the combination of star power, veteran leadership, and young talent striving to make an impact.
On Sunday, they faced off against Justin Herbert and his Los Angeles Chargers. The game got out of hand by halftime, leading to a dominating 38-24 victory. Running back Jonathan Taylor led the team to victory, getting in the end zone 3 times. The Colts have cemented their spot as contenders in this league and continue to impress.Â
AFC East in Shambles
The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins continue to disappoint.Â
The Miami Dolphins faced off against the Cleveland Browns this past Sunday—a showdown of two lower-end teams in the league. Things seem to get worse for Tua Tagovailoa and his Dolphins offense by the week. Tua logged 3 interceptions in a blowout loss to a struggling 1-5 Browns team. The defense didn’t play much better, allowing rookie running back Quinshon Judkins to run all over this defense. He totaled 84 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. The Dolphins, starting the season at a 1-6 record, have head coach Mike McDaniels on the hot seat going into week 8.
The New York Jets have had a rough start to the season. With high expectations, this team has been extremely underwhelming. The Jets came into this game at MetLife needing a win against the Carolina Panthers after an 0-6 start. The Jets weren’t able to move the ball all game long, leading to Justin Fields being benched for backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor. The team fell to the Panthers 13-6, increasing their loss total to 0-7.Â
These two bottom feeders of the AFC continue to redefine what a disastrous season looks like.
Cowboys Dismantle Commanders Â
We saw a classic divisional matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Commanders on Sunday. The long-awaited return of Cowboys wide receiver Ceedee Lamb did not disappoint. Early in the first half, he hauled in a 74-yard touchdown from Dak Prescott. From that point on, they never looked back and put up a commanding 44–22 victory against their division rival.
Unfortunately, former Offensive Rookie of the Year quarterback Jayden Daniels came down with a hamstring injury. On a scramble to extend a third-down play, he pulled up awkwardly after planting his foot, forcing him to signal for help and exit the game.Â
Veteran backup quarterback Marcus Mariota replaced him but struggled, throwing an interception returned for 68 yards and a touchdown by DaRon Bland. The Cowboys capitalized on Daniels's fumble and Mariota's interception to extend their lead and secure the win. With the victory, Dallas improved to 3–3–1, while Washington fell to 3–4.
Tampa Takes a Blow
During Monday Night Football, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers faced off against the Detroit Lions—a battle of 2 of the best teams in the NFC. This game seemed to get ugly quick, with the Lions going up early and ultimately just pulling away the rest of the game.Â
Midway through the second quarter, Mike Evans went up for a deep ball from Baker Mayfield. As the pass fell incomplete, he landed awkwardly and immediately froze on the ground in pain. It was later revealed that he not only suffered a broken collarbone but also a concussion.Â
The veteran wide receiver is infamous for always reaching the 1,000-yard milestone, no matter what injuries or hardships occur during the season. Unfortunately, it looks like it's coming to an end after more than a decade. This season-ending injury will keep him sidelined for the rest of the year, leaving a massive hole in the Buccaneers’ offense. Questions surface as to whether the young receiving talent on the Bucs roster will step up for this championship-contending team.
