The College Decision: Why Choosing Where to Go Is So Difficult
by Diego Rodriguez-Deshon

The most difficult and important question for many students during their school days is one they do not know the answer to at all:
Where should I go to college?
There are literally thousands of universities in the United States, providing students with plenty of options. There are too many possibilities, and that's not always good and can cause more stress. Between academic programs, tuition fees, location and expectations from family members and friends, making the choice of college can be quite difficult.
One of the main difficulties that students face is the combination of their expectations with those of others. While some prefer to go to college in their hometowns, others are willing to study in a totally different place. Parents might be interested in tuition fees and job opportunities, while some students care about campus life and school spirit, for example, school football.
Finance plays an essential role as well. Even though a student might dream of studying at a particular university, high tuition fees can make them think twice about their choice. Scholarships and financial aid can be helpful in such situations.
Students are always under pressure to choose wisely. Attending college is commonly seen as a significant step toward adulthood and a successful career. As a result, some people believe that going to the wrong college might ruin their future. Yet, a student's success does not entirely depend on the particular institution they attend; it depends on whether they are willing to put in the work.
This issue becomes even trickier thanks to social media, which lets students see friends' announcements about their admission to colleges. Students feel pressured to choose something that sounds familiar. Then they start looking for the best match according to the criteria of other people's values.
It is necessary to emphasize that choosing a college should not be solely about finding something that looks best to others. A person needs a college that will help them develop academically, personally and professionally.
One will probably never find the only right solution to this problem; however, with certain effort on their part, this task can be managed steadily.
