Christopher Columbus High School captured the Greater Miami Athletic Conference (GMAC) championship title following a weather-impacted matchup against Miami Central Senior High School, improving its record to 8-1 on the season with a victory over MaxPreps’ No. 22 ranked team.

The game opened with active play from both sides. Columbus recorded the opening score in the first quarter when No. 39 Brian Wilson reached the end zone for a touchdown. The Columbus defense held Central on a subsequent run to finish the first quarter ahead 7-0.

Defensive stops continued into the second quarter, highlighted by a sack from Columbus' No. 6 Keney Belamour that forced a Central punt. After taking possession, Columbus extended its lead when quarterback No. 7 Kai Moore hit No. 14 Tyler Bryant on a deep pass for a touchdown, making the score 13-0.

Miami Central answered on its next drive to get on the scoreboard. Despite defensive stops by Columbus, including a tackle for loss and a stand by No. 1 Amir Sears, Central moved into range and successfully converted a field goal. The teams went into halftime with the score standing at 14-3.

Weather disruptions delayed the start of the second half. Once action resumed, Brian Wilson broke free for a 40-yard run to score his second rushing touchdown of the night. Shortly after, No. 5 Cecil Smith added another touchdown for Columbus. No. 3 Bernard Cannon then converted a two-point attempt, extending the score to 28-3.

Shortly after, severe weather swept through the area again, placing the game under a second weather delay. During the stoppage, Miami Central Senior High School officially forfeited the remainder of the contest.

With the forfeit, the 28-3 score became official, sealing the GMAC championship victory for Columbus.

Following the win, Coach Dub praised his team's execution on both sides of the ball. "Shout out to Kai Moore, the entire offensive line, Brody Villa, they really stood out," Coach Dub stated. "Shout out to the whole defense, we really played together. We knew we had to tackle the quarterback and tackle the running back to give us a chance to win, and we did that."

Looking ahead, Columbus will look to maintain its momentum as they close out the regular season next week in a marquee matchup against rival Miami Northwestern.
