Week 4 of the NFL season featured upsets, breakout performances and injuries that reshaped teams heading into Week 5.
A Rookie Sensation
Buccaneers rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka had another standout performance on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. He had four catches for 101 yards and a touchdown. He displayed speed, precise route running and ability after the catch.
With Pro Bowl teammate Mike Evans injured, Egbuka is likely to see more targets throughout the season. Among rookies, he has been one of the most consistent statistically, placing him among the early leaders in offensive rookie production.
Star Receivers Sidelined
This week of football saw All-Pro wide receivers suffer season-ending injuries within hours of each other.
During the second quarter of the Chargers-Giants game, Jaxson Dart dropped back and threw a fade route to Nabers, who came down awkwardly and was carted off the field. He later was diagnosed with a season-ending ACL tear.
On the other side of the country, Miami wide receiver Tyreek Hill was injured after hauling in a pass from Tua Tagovailoa. He planted his feet awkwardly, resulting in a dislocated left knee and torn ligaments, including the ACL. The injuries prompted calls from some fans and players for a return to grass fields and elimination of turf.
Giants Pull Off Upset
Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart made his first career start on Sunday against MVP front-runner Justin Herbert and the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers.
The first-round pick out of Ole Miss led the Giants to an upset victory in his debut. He totaled 166 yards and two touchdowns. With Nabers out for the season, questions remain about whether Dart and the Giants’ offense can compete against top defenses. The team and staff now face a major test in maintaining momentum.
Patrick Mahomes is Back
Patrick Mahomes threw for 270 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, leading Kansas City to a 34-10 win.
He connected with four different receivers for touchdowns. With the offense clicking, the defense followed with key stops to secure the victory.
The performance reinforced Mahomes’ place among the league’s top quarterbacks and set the tone for the Chiefs’ upcoming schedule.
Week 5 TNF Matchup
The San Francisco 49ers edged out the Los Angeles Rams 26-23 in an overtime thriller Thursday night, picking up a vital NFC West win.
In the extra period, the 49ers’ defense delivered the game’s defining moment—stuffing the Rams on fourth down to seal the victory. Quarterback Mac Jones led the way with a standout performance, backed by a resilient San Francisco lineup that continues to battle through injuries.
